Go underground and learn about the world of hard-rock mining in the richest mining district on earth! Sierra Silver Mine Tour is the most popular, educational and fun tour in the Northwest. We are the only mine tour where the guides are retired miners from the local mines, and who demonstrate the operation of pneumatic powered mining equipment.
Your tour begins as you step aboard Sierra Silver'...s 18-passenger trolley. On the short trip to and from the mine you will enjoy a narrated tour of Historic Wallace, Idaho that will give you a look into the colorful history of this 128-year-old mining camp. As you step down off the trolley you will be greeted by one of our miners who will hand you a hard hat and your underground experience will begin. As you walk through the main drift of the Sierra Silver Mine you will learn your guide’s personal experiences as a hard-rock miner as well as how silver and other metals come into your life.
Mission Statement:
Sierra Silver Mine Tour is dedicated to educating current and future generations as to the culture history and current practices of hard-rock mining in the Coeur D'Alene Mining District. We accomplish this by providing an underground experience for our patrons, guided by retired miners, who provide first-hand accounts, historically and technically correct narratives, explain exhibits and give live demonstrations of the operation of mining machinery. Additionally, on the way to and from the mine our trolley drivers provide a tour of Wallace and factual narratives of local historical events.
